20 weeks into her detention and just a few days after writing to President Joe Biden, Griner pleaded guilty to drug possession charges in a Russian court near Moscow, her lawyers confirmed. The American professional basketball player told the judge she did not intend to break the law as she was in a rush and accidently put the vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage.

Experts say that this guilty plea may be part of a larger picture and strategy to get her to come back home. The only way to get a prisoner swap would be to have convicted to the Russian court so the Russians can negotiate.

This may all be planned for as it happened immediately after she received a reply letter from President Biden.
