According to court documents obtained, a Columbus man has been charged with raping a 10-year-old Ohio girl who was forced to travel to Indiana for an abortion after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
The case’s rumors garnered national and worldwide attention, and several US political leaders raised it up in a discussion on abortion restrictions after the overturn of Roe vs Wade.
According to documents from court as well as the Columbus police, 27-year-old Gerson Fuentes was arrested on Tuesday. According to the Franklin County Municipal Court, he is charged with criminal sexual assault of a minor under the age of 13. He made his judicial debut on Wednesday, the court announced.
According to Det. Jeffrey Huhn’s testimony at Fuentes’ arraignment on Wednesday, police were first notified of the child’s pregnancy in late June thanks to a referral the 10-year old’s mother made to the neighborhood children services department. Huhn testified that Fuentes told the police he had raped the little girl twice.
According to the detective’s statement, the 10-year-old girl underwent a medical abortion on June 30 in Indianapolis. As per Huhn, samples from Fuentes and the child’s siblings were being matched to DNA from the Indianapolis facility.
According to the court, Fuentes is being held in custody on a $2 million bail. His next trial date is July 22, according to court records.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said in a statement on Wednesday, “My heart aches for the pain experienced by this young child.” Justice must be served, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is ready to support local law enforcement in Ohio in detaining these offenders.
Protests have been held by the masses requesting for abortion rights because the innocent children being raped are suffering. Many more acts of indiscretion are still being carried out against our children and they are suffering because of the overturn and the new laws against abortion.
